Terpenes – general information

Terpenes are part of essential oils of cannabis and they have specific flavor and fragrance due to their volatility. Analysis of terpenes are provide through static headspace by GC-FID. The sample of optimal 10 grams is needed due to low concentrations of terpenes.

Mostly analysed terpenes: Alpha-Pinene, Beta-Caryophyllene, Myrcene, Sabinene, p-Cymene, Limonene, Linalool, Borneol, Terpinolene, Alpha-Humulene, Geraniol, Alpha-Terpinene

Examples of terpenic effects
Alpha-Pinene –may be used in medicine as anti-inflammatory, cancer inhibitor.
Myrcene-may be used in medicine as antibiotic and for energy
Limonene-may be used in medicine as anti-depressant or immune booster
Beta-Caryophellene-may be used in medicine as anti-depressant or as anti-oxidant
Geraniol-may be used in medicine as anti biotic or anti microbial sunbstances
Linalool-may be used in medicine as sedative
Alpha-Humulene-may be used in medicine as anti-inflammatory
Borneol-may be used in medicine for analgesic effects
p-Cymene-may be used in medicine as anti microbial sunbstances
Terpinolene-may be used in medicene as anti microbial and anti insomnia substances
