Metals such as mercury, cadmium, chromium, barium, aluminum are widely dispersed in the environment, and the contamination of environmental components such as water, agricultural soils varies widely. Cannabis has been found to readily accumulate metals from contaminated soils.
The American Herb Products Association (AHPA 2013) has proposed the following values for maximum oral intake limits in herbal products:
- Arsenic (As): 10.0 μg/day
- Cadmium (Cd): 4.1 μg/day
- Lead (Pb): 6.0 μg/day
- Mercury (as Me-Hg): 2.0 μg/day
In addition, we provide testing of other predominantly heavy metals:
- Nickel (Ni),
- Barium (Ba),
- Strontium (Sr),
- Aluminium (Al).
The analytical method consists of mineralization in acid followed by ICP-MS analysis.
