Potency testing is the detection of selected cannabinoids and the evaluation of their content in terms of concentration levels in the material.
Our goal is to focus on the cannabinoids that are most commonly present and analytically most accurate. The following list contains some of the health effects of specific cannabinoids that have been investigated.
Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC): The most common form of THC found in cannabis and the most studied. This is the compound with which people are most familiar. This cannabinoid is known for its analgesic effects. It is used for its antioxidant and psychoactive properties that induce a feeling of euphoria.
Delta 9-Tetrahydrocannabinol Acid (Δ9-THCA): The main ingredient in raw cannabis. This cannabinoid is known for its anti-inflammatory effects; it can slow cell growth in certain cancer cells and suppress muscle spasms.
CBD – Cannabidiol: Is the main non-psychoactive component. It is known for its antioxidant, antispasmodic, analgesic, antipsychotic and anti-inflammatory effects. Research has shown that it can slow the growth of some cancer cells.
CBDA – Cannabidiol Acid: Cannabidiol acid is known as an analgesic.
CBG – Cannabigerol: A non-psychoactive cannabinoid, considered a “stem cell” canabinoids. Enzymes in cannabis can convert CBG into other cannabinoids. It is known for its antibiotic, analgesic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory effects.
CBGA- Cannabigeroleic acid: Cannabigeroleic acid is known for its antibiotic properties.
CBN – Cannabinol: A product of the oxidation of THC that takes place when the plant is exposed to oxygen. It interacts synergistically with THC and can enhance the feeling of “couch lock” (inability to move after consuming large amounts of THC). It is known for its sedative, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and anticonvulsant properties.
CBNA – Cannabinoleic acid: Cannabinoleic acid is known for its sedative effects. It can even stimulate bone growth.
